VETTING THE FORESIGHT PATH

  • June 19, 2014

Department of Veterinary Services Malaysia (DVS) has provided a platform for Malaysian Foresight Institute (myForesight®) to share on how foresight can benefit the veterinary sector as a whole through its methodology and outcomes derived from scenario building, planning and analysis activities.  The talk delivered by En. Mohd Nurul Azammi, the Deputy Directory of myForesight®  in conjunction with the Management and Professional Group Meeting held at Palm Garden Hotel on 19th June, 2014 was attended by around 250 officers from DVS Head Quarters and State Offices in Malaysia.

Dr. Sulaiman b. A Kadir, Head of Planning Division, DVS during his interview session, shared his view on the increasing need for foresight to oversee strategic long term planning. Amongst the three main concerns highlighted are:

i.                 Food security for the country;

ii.                Food cost for consumers and producer; and

iii.               Business sustainability

He also added that the industry is facing challenges and constraints relating to land use, urbanization, climate change, enforcement, food safety and environment.

Most of the participants especially those familiar with morphological process belief that foresight  is an important tools for Malaysia to move forward, and this is a good beginning for the Veterinary industry to find its wow factor.
