Future of Semi-Conductor in Malaysia

  • January 16, 2015
15 January 2015 in SilTerra office, Kedah, Malaysia

Malaysia needs to focus on the key trends and technologies in semiconductor design and manufacturing. The rise of ‘Internet of Things” (IoT) technologies highlighted the need to expand the applications markets in mobile devices and other connecting technologies. Moreover, the growth of semiconductor will continue to spearhead the growth of the E&E industry in Malaysia. The E&E manufacturers have continued to move-up the value chain to produce higher value-added products. These include intensification of research and development efforts and outsource non-core activities domestically.

According to Gartner, the Southeast Asia microelectronics manufacturing market accounts for more than 27 percent of the world’s assembly, packaging, and test production. Malaysia alone represents over 10 percent of the global square footage, followed closely by the Philippines, Thailand and Singapore.

Recognizing the importance of this industry and the dynamism of it, a strategic discussion between MIGHT and SilTerra Malaysia Sdn Bhd was held on 15 January 2015 in SilTerra office in Kedah, Malaysia.
