Response Session on Post Rio +20 Forum

Post Rio +20 Forum: The Call for Malaysian Stewardship – How Malaysian organizations can & must take the lead in realizing a sustainable future together.

The forum was co- organized by BCSR Malaysia and UTM Perdana School and supported by United Nations Global Compact. It was a half day event gathering more than 60 participants addressing issues and exploring alternatives to achieving goals outline at the recent United Nation Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio +20).

The forum was divided into two sessions, namely Sharing session and Response session. The first session was moderated by Prof Govind Nair, Adjunct Professor in Perdana School and panelled by representatives from the United Nations Global Compact (Global), WWF Malaysia, and BCSR Malaysia (BCSRM) whom represented Malaysia during the Rio +20 Summit. They shared their Rio experience and perspective and how the local industry can play a significant role in sustainability agenda.

With the theme “Future We Want’, the following session was more thoughts provoking as the panellists unveil their organizations initiatives and hopes in creating a desirable and promising future. Moderated by Mr Faroze Nadar, the invited panels including Mr Rushdi Abdul Rahim (National Foresight Institute),Ms Sumitra Nair (DiGi), Mr Boyd Dionysius Joeman (IRDA) and Dr Hezri Adnan (ISIS). The discussions continued as the audience responses with questions, opinions and ideas. Concluding the session, it was consensus that Malaysian should unite and play more active role in sustainable agenda, locally and globally. Communication is crucial in spreading the knowledge and initiatives done thus far. Outreaching people, educating the young and mainstreaming sustainability through education is essential in inculcating awareness and practices in realising sustainable environment for all.
